Your Computer needs a FileButler!

Do you know where your file you named ‘Aunt Mary.doc’ is stored that you created the last time you sent her a letter? Your answer could be any of the following.

“In some folder on my computer is not good enough". That is not an answer—that is a statement. “I know, its on my C:\ drive or I could have archived it on my D:/ drive! No, no I remember, it is on my ‘thumb drive’, I think!” How many times have you gone through this mental process? I went through this mental process daily until I did something about it!

At my age, the thought process slows done a little and I would rather spend my time thinking about my wife, children, grandchildren, employees and neighbors then remember the name of a file and where I stored it! Wouldn’t you?

When you cannot find a file, it affects your effectiveness, your stress, your anxiety and most of all, your productivity. What you could have accomplished is less than what is possible with the current way we address files and folders.

Yes we have a ‘Search’ program that will bail you out. It indubitably will waste your valuable time but it is a necessary evil and you have no better source to help you.

So I did something about it!

I became tired of searching through the many folders to find my long-time created ‘Aunt Mary.doc’ filename. “There has to be a better way,” as I kept mumbling to myself daily. Finally, I ‘Goggled’ the Internet and found nothing that appealed to me, so I went to work developing a better way. Four years later and with a patent in hand, I fine-tuned the process to my satisfaction. Today it is compatible with PC users with XP, Vista and Windows 7©. Tomorrow, well, you will need to wait and see!

The computer user has only one screen to master. On this one screen you will see four columns of filenames. Each column of forty filenames is populated with a unique (user selected) filename extension from a list of extensions found on your computer. Each column of filenames can be sorted ten different ways. The computer has interrogated the path(s) of your choice and found all filenames. As a user, you simply double-click on the desired filename. It will load the appropriate application program and display the contents almost instantaneously. All actions are faster than the operator—a design requirement!

So after several years working through my specifications, and round-table discussions with my in-house engineers, programmers and support staff, we have a working product, which I called appropriately, FileButler. It is pure fun to use! It is simple to use. It is fast!

Filenames! Where are they when you need them?

When it comes to locating a filename we saved three days ago, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. Did you know the water exits the Nile River at a rate of 680,000 gallons per second? Now that is a lot of water!

Do you know on what storage device you saved all the files you created the previous week on a Monday morning? Better yet, do you recall the filename you gave each of the files? What about several hundred filenames scattered in decades of folders—do you know where they are stored?

The water that exits the Nile River is of no consequence while using a computer. However, where you stored your filenames has its consequences. It affects your efficiency, your stress level, your anxiety of the number of events it takes you to find your file and most of all, your productivity! What you could have accomplished is less than what is possible. Why sell yourself short? Your Computer needs a FileButler!

O well, you have a ‘Search’ program that will bail you out. It indisputably will waste your valuable time but it is a necessary evil of how the file structure is created within a computer. We have been using it for centuries---therefore it must be good! Wrong! Did you know there is a better way? Few computer users do. So I did something about it!

I was tired of searching through the many folders to find my created file yesterday. Thinking to myself, “There has to be a better way.” And there is!

Why not let the all powerful computer do the work of displaying the filenames on my screen and let me select which filename I want to open?

Give me more choices! Why should I look for my filenames!

Better yet, arrange the filenames by extension—that is, put like files in one column? Why not put several columns of filenames on my display, each with a different file extension? Let me select what filenames are to be displayed on the one screen!

So I sat down with my in-house programmers, told them my woes with respect to files and folders and wrote the design specifications of what is now known as FileButler! Pure fun! This is no doubt.
